When to go to Baku's beaches, what the water is like and how to stay safe.
Summer by the Caspian
The beach season in Baku runs roughly from late May to September. The warmest months are July and August, when the air heats up to 30–35° and the water by the shore to 25–28°. Early June and September are cooler and calmer, but with fewer people.
A warm, gentle sea
In summer the Caspian by Absheron is warm and calm: there are no tides and the shallows warm up well. The water is less salty than the ocean, so swimming in it is pleasant. But the weather depends on the wind: on Khazri days waves rise and it grows cooler, while in a calm the sea is almost a mirror.
What to keep in mind
The Caspian is generally calm, but on windy days there are waves and currents — it is best to swim where there are lifeguards and not to swim out far. Water cleanliness differs from place to place: it is better to choose the northern and eastern beaches, away from the industrial zones. And, as everywhere, sun and shade matter: in summer the sun is strong, so bring water, a hat and sunscreen.
